The Renaissance of OG Hill

How the “original hill” where my friends first built some lines has grown into a jam-packed spot for turns, jumps, and freeride shenanigans…

January/February

When you really want to ride, neither the seasons, the temperatures, nor the conditions will matter; you’ll find something to do and somehwere to do it. With friends who share this mindset, I started cutting in some turns during some of the coldest days of January 2026, when most social media posts sounded something like “don’t leave ruts on wet trails” or “me waiting for sunny weather be like..”. This marked the beginning of what would become “Turn Track 1”.

March

The dream for Turn Track 1 was to have a place to rail turns back-to-back, all the way down the hillside. We even went head-to-head to set lap times top to bottom once the full track was completed in early March.

April

Shortly after TT 1 was completed, we began working on a new track: something more diverse than just corners. Inspired by vague recollections of MTB edits from the greats, I wanted to incorporate as many lillypad features as possible to create a bouncy, fast-paced line with no breaks in action and flow only available with precise riding.

By the end of April, Turn Track 2 (TT 2) was a series of corners with sections of lilly-pad on/off jumps between them, growing in size as you descend down the hill. Sharkfins, transfers, and other bonus features brought you to the bottom where more and more options opened up for bigger drops, step-downs, and faster berms all converging at the final trail gap.

May

New features built at the bottom section include things like fast lillypads straight out of steep tight berms, techy drops into berms, and fast step downs where the G-out at the bottom is the only limiting factor…

June - July

A new addition in the middle of Turn Track 2 called the “motorway”, consisting of a sequence of doubles sends riders into the revamped “mega step-up”. That 14ft lip has been split into a taller and mellower half, with the former sending you into the “rollercoaster” - a slow wraparound berm that drops you back into the lip you just launched out of before sending you into a pair of turns, one a flat loose turn on an embankment, the other a 140º berm. Oh, and some wooden pallet drops and a righty berm to hip that lands you into a small pocket between some trees and then gaps out onto the main trail over a root garden.

And for now, that’s all. Time to dig some loamers elsewhere…
